In addition to a goodwill offering that supports future concerts, the choir is also collecting donations on Dec. 4 to support a local charity. This reflects a history of charitable giving associated with Handel’s oratorio. When first performed in Dublin in 1742, this original “Messiah” was written exclusively to support three charities: “..for the relief of the Prisoners in several Gaols, and for the support of Mercer’s Hospital in Stephen Street, and of the Charitable Infirmary on the Inn’s Quay.”
This year, staff from “With Love from Jesus” Ministries (embed this hyperink behind name: http://www.withlovefromjesus.org/silver/testtemp2/about.asp?link=about&sregid=9292007173619&linktype=1&linkorder=2&DOCUMENTID=13, a Triangle-based non-profit serving the practical needs of our community, will be on hand to accept contributions of non-perishable food, cleaning items, and paper products. |
